How Hot is Houston?
Cool news: Houston trails behind Dallas and Hell as hottest place to live
Several national surveys have indicated that Houston is the nation's coolest city. Now, it's — surprise! — among the nation's hottest.
A heat index study by Bert Sperling Exploring the Best Places Blog concluded that Houston summers are scorching, in case you didn't already know.
The 50 largest metropolitan areas in the country were ranked in order of their heat index, which uses the summer's average high temperature, the nighttime low temperature and the dew point (as a measure of humidity) from each city to calculate the score.
Texas was on fire with four places, one right after the next, in the top 10. Houston's summer heat was ranked as the fourth hottest in America, just behind Dallas. Austin followed Houston in fifth place and San Antonio was ranked as the sixth.
Only Phoenix and Las Vegas beat out the Texas locales, making them the top two hottest cities in the United States.
If you can't beat the heat, then head for the three places with the coolest summers: Seattle, San Francisco or Portland were ranked at the bottom of this list.
