Kim Kardashian is not the only one obsessed with sexting: Teenagers jump intonude photo messaging
A study done by the University of Texas Medical Branch at Galveston found that 28 percent of male and female teenagers have texted nude photographs of themselves to other teenagers.
The trend, dubbed "sexting", is only becoming more and more popular.
A third of the participants say they have asked others to send a picture and 57 percent say they received a nude photo request, according to the study published in the Archives of Pediatric and Adolescent Medicine.
More than 77 percent of female teens that sent a nude photograph have had sex, and more than 82 percent of the male teens that sent nude photographs have had sex.
Sexting is proving to lead to more sexual activity, the study finds. More than 77 percent of female teens that sent a nude photograph have had sex, and more than 82 percent of the male teens that sent nude photographs have had sex.
With the technology ever-changing and evolving, it is hard for parents to keep up and try to police the activities, according to a local mother interviewed by KHOU 11.
Dr. Jeff Temple believes that making these issues more known and parents more aware will help the situation.
"Talking about sex, the birds and the bees, is intimidating and scary for parents and even pediatricians," Temple said. "This might be a door opener to talking about sexual practices."
