BRC rooster gets a rainbow makeover for Pride celebration
Editor's Note: This is the first in a new feature that highlights cool photos around Houston.
For this weekend's big Pride celebration, BRC Gastropub co-owner Lee Ellis and culinary wizard and co-owner Lance Fegen decided to get in the spirit of the occasion. They adorned the big red rooster in front of the restaurant at 519 Shepherd Drive in a host of rainbow colors.
It took restaurant workers four hours to paint the multicolor hues that represent the GLBT rainbow flag onto the 3-foot-tall sculpture.
The response was so positive from the neighborhood that Ellis and Fegen said they plan to make it an annual salute, with plans to highlight the sculpture in other shades for other celebrations. The rooster is back to its red color today, but will get a stars-and-stripes makeover on July 4.
