No money-back guarantee: Hartz Chicken customer charged $2,727 is looking forrefund
Lanie Hill was mistakenly charged $2,727.37 for a fried chicken dinner and is now having trouble getting her money back. She went to a Hartz Chicken Restaurant in Humble intending to purchase $27.37 of fried chicken. Due to cashier error, Hill paid over two thousand more dollars than the chicken was worth for her order. When the attendant recognized her mistake she alerted the manager of the store.
"[He said] ‘No worries, I’m an honest man. I’ll refund it to you.’ They were very nice, very polite about it," Mills told KHOU reporter Shern-Min Chow.
Despite the restaurant’s correction on her debit card, Hill did not receive the money in her Chase bank account. When she contacted her bank she was told that there was no pending transactions for her account. The service agent informed Hill that she might not receive the refunds for 15 more days. In order to expedite the process, the agent suggested that Hill request a letter from the chicken franchise explaining what had occurred.
The franchise contacted the Chase bank — the same bank it uses for business — and explained the situation. After being contacted by the franchise, the bank informed Hill that she would receive the refund in her bank account in two to three days.
