Starbucks brings the green to Tax Day & it's free coffee for you
All Starbucks are giving away free brewed coffee all day today if you provide your own reusable travel mug (it doesn't have to be Starbucks brand, my CultureMap travel mug worked just fine) to provide some tax day relief and announce the start of their new earth deal: Bring your own mug, and get 10 cents off any day starting tomorrow.
It's all part of "The Big Picture: A Green Project" campaign, and we only heard about it through an e-mail flyer. The flyer touts that "One Person Can Save Trees, Together We Can Save Forests" with the idea being that the reusable mugs will cause less use of Starbucks' paper cups.
There isn't a lot of recognition of this deal though — it was mentioned so marginally that it almost seems as if the corporate heads were hoping we wouldn't notice. We hit up our regular Starbucks and found it surprisingly deserted even for a regular morning, much less the morning of tax-day freebies. And the folks in line with us didn't know about the offer, though they were happy to switch their orders for a free cup o' joe.
We told them about the ongoing environmentally motivated 10-cent-off offer, but it didn't spur quite the same level of excitement.
So tell us, will you be going to Starbucks today for the tax-day freebie, your passion for the environment, or the fact that — at least today — the two conveniently align?
