Houston Rodeo to cancel thousands of ticket purchases in anti-scalper cowboy crusade
If you paid top dollar through a broker (rather than through the Reliant Center or Ticketmaster) for one of the 2013 Houston Livestock Show and Rodeo concerts, then you may be left out in the cold on the night of — especially if you paid for a ticket but haven't yet received a seat assignment or a hard copy.
As KHOU Ch. 11 News reports, RodeoHouston will be reissuing 5,000 concert tickets that were set to be sold at an intense markup, sometimes for thousands of dollars over face value.
"[Some season ticket holders and others are] gonna get an email from Ticketmaster that says we are invalidating your order, we are not processing your credit card, we will not be shipping you these tickets because you purchased them in violation of RodeoHouston's ticketing policy," Leroy Shafer, the show's chief operating officer, says.
KHOU first picked up on the unreasonable prices in January, when prime seats to George Strait's concert were selling for nearly $12,000 on some brokerage sites, while $25 spots for other shows were listed for nearly $600 per ticket.
