Survey finds Houston daters take it slow while singles from Dallas jump rightinto the hot tub
Have you always had a inkling that on-the-prowl singles in Houston date differently than other Texans? Well, you may be right.
According to statistics from HowAboutWe.com, a free online dating site that focuses more on the dating than the being online, patterns and suggestions for a first date differ across the Lone Star State.
Dallasites suggest promiscuous first dates like "getting to know each other," "staying in," "sunset" and "hot tub."
Austin love seekers keep it simple on the first date, suggesting variations of "How about we take a walk around ____." Sporting events are (unsurprisingly) a no-go, as are (surprisingly) live concerts — but karaoke is the third most frequently posted idea for a first date, and also one of the most successful.
While Dallasites suggest promiscuous first dates like "getting to know each other," "staying in," "sunset" and "hot tub," Houstonians prefer outings that aren't quite so physically intimate: First date ideas most often involve sports and eating. Trending date suggestions in 2012 include "cafe dates," "sushi," "coffee" and "karaoke."
"Eating is by far the strongest category in Houston while users in Dallas prefer activities such as 'exploring'," HowAboutWe co-founder Brian Schechter said. Is this a testament to H-Town's intense foodie culture?
Comedy clubs and lunch dates are common in Dallas, but Houston opts for the more traditional dinner date. Hungry daters in Austin seek out Greek and BBQ — or for a drink, beer, wine and whiskey.
