That's good, right?
All work and no play? Houston misses list of 40 drunkest cities
We're not sure whether to be flattered or hurt.
The Daily Beast, which regularly publishes quirky rankings based on suspicious methodology, has compiled a list of the "40 Drunkest Cities" in the United States. And Houston didn't make the cut.
To compile the first annual list, the website looked at average alcohol consumption over a month, the highest levels of binge drinking, and the places where large portions of the population suffer health consequences from over-imbibing.
Perhaps not surprisingly, Milwaukee — the beer capital of the world — topped the list, followed by Fargo, N.D., San Francisco, Austin and Reno.
In Austin, residents consume 13.77 drinks per month and 20.4 percent of adults are binge drinkers. (Wonder if that includes UT students?)
The only other Texas city on the list, San Antonio ranked 19th.
We're suspicious of the list because two party cities — New Orleans (25th) and Las Vegas (36th) didn't rank high. And, in addition to Houston, New York, Los Angeles and Dallas didn't make the list at all.
But aranking near the top of many surveys of cities with unhealthy lifestyle habits, we're thankful that Houston wasn't included in a list of cities with alcohol problems.
Yet there's this nagging feeling that it may mean that we're working too hard and not having enough fun.
Happy hour, anyone?
