Shortly after setting up shop in new digs, DiverseWorks opened the doors on its sleek nest in the Midtown Arts and Theater Center Houston (MATCH) with a cocktail reception celebrating patrons, artists and staff.
The "Meet Us at the MATCH" party was aimed at encouraging contributions to the alternative arts organization's annual fund. To date, more than $27,000 has been raised in the drive that continues through the end of 2015.
Leadership welcoming guests included DiverseWorks executive director and chief curator Xandra Eden, board president Rob Greenstein and board vice president Aimee Heimbinder. While visitors explored the new offices and gallery, DJ Peter Lucas spun the disks and Etta's Little Kitchen served the party foods.
Among those mingling in the gallery space were Daniel Heimbinder, Jereann Chaney, Bridget and Patrick Wade, Julie Farr, Tek Wilson, Dawn and Richard Gervais, Mark Yzaguirre, and artists JooYoung Choi, Trenton Doyle Hancock, Alisa Mittin, Fplo and Gonzo247.
DiverseWorks' first exhibition at the MATCH opens January 14, 2016. What Shall We Do Next?, organized by DiverseWorks associate curator Rachel Cook, is a group exhibition that explores the effects of technology, advertising, consumerism on the human body. The exhibition includes drawings, paintings, sculpture, video and performances by Houston's Danielle Dean, Kristin Lucas of Austin, Julien Prévieux of Paris and the collective Versace Versace Versace of Miami.
