Medical moguls meet in a swanky River Oaks manse for powerful partying thanks to Scotty Arnoldy

Top rung philanthropists and medical moguls rang in the holiday cheer at a swank cocktail party hosted by Jana and Scotty Arnoldy in a night that was filled with thank you's in celebration of the boards of CHI St. Luke's Health, Baylor St. Luke's Medical Center and Baylor College of Medicine.

In case you are befuddled by the three entities with interlocking names, Baylor St. Luke's Medical Center is a year-old joint venture created by CHI by combining assets of the former St. Luke's Medical Center with assets from Baylor College of Medicine and participation of its full-time faculty. (It was formed with governance by Baylor, which has six of the 12 board seats, and CHI St. Luke's, which has the remaining six.) Arnoldy was asked to serve as the first chairman of the new entity.

In that role, he convened the holiday get-together as the perfect way for board members of the medical trio to get up close and personal in the best of ways.

Arnoldy convened the holiday get-together as the perfect way for board members of the medical trio to get up close and personal in the best of ways.

Thus, the heavy-hitter crowd was invited into the Arnoldys' beautifully-decorated River Oaks home where they meandered across the pool area and into the separate great room, reminiscent of a European hunting lodge, where the serious partying began. Elizabeth Stone of Silver Stone Events handled the particulars of the gathering providing the cocktail fare and beaucoup bottles of Ramey from the Arnoldys' wine cellar.

CHI St. Luke's Health president Michael Covert did the honors thanking the room full of board members for their service to the medical institutions and singling out two individuals for their exceptional efforts — Scotty Arnoldy for his leadership and vision as Baylor St. Luke's Medical Center board chair and Leonard Tallerine Jr. for his leadership as CHI St. Luke’s Health board chair.

Among those regularly noted for their community leadership were Sue and Lester Smith, Barbara and Corby Robertson Jr., Marc Shapiro, Paul Hobby, Howard Tellepsen, Susan Hoffman and Dr. Mark Skolkin, Baylor St. Luke’s Medical Center president Wayne Keathley and wife Delphine Mendez de Leon and Pam and Dr. David Ott. And representing the joint venture board were 5th Circuit Court of Appeal Chief Judge Carolyn Dineen King and David Baldwin, co-president of SCF Partners.

The ballroom at The Post Oak Hotel became a cotton-candy cloudburst with a mission on April 24 as more than 650 Houstonians arrived dressed in what could only be described as 50 shades of pink.

The sixth annual American Cancer Society (ACS) Tickled Pink Luncheon, presented by H-E-B, was chaired by Shelley Boyer, Denise Monteleone, and Gaye Lynn Zarrow, with honorary chairs Leisa Holland-Nelson Bowman and Sippi Khurana. Former on-air personality Khambrel Marshall emceed the program.

“The American Cancer Society is the largest nonprofit funder of cancer research, including $82 million currently invested in breast cancer-specific research,” said Jenny Todd, vice president of Greater Texas for the American Cancer Society, noting that 14 grants totaling more than $7 million are currently funding research in Houston alone. Chief Development Officer Darrow Zeidenstein also spoke about ACS’ commitment to finding a cure.

The afternoon honored Jana Arnoldy, Zane Carruth, Ellen Elam, Jennifer Fitts, Heidi Smith, and Travis Torrence for their contributions to the Houston community, with each honoree’s favorite inspirational quote read aloud. Later, survivor Brandi Sikes shared her personal journey with breast cancer, prompting more than a few mascara checks around the room and inspiring guests to raise their paddles during a live auction led by Johnny Bravo.

The affair raised $650,000 for breast cancer research, education, and patient support services.

Donning their finest pink were Chree Boydstun, Cheryl Byington, Tripp Carter, Allison Lewis Cattan, Suzan Deison, Nancy Dinerstein, Lesha Elsenbrook, Debbie Festari, Marilu Garza, Cyndy Garza Roberts, Maritza Gonzales, Mady Kades, Stacey Lindseth, Julie Longoria Chen, Kelley Lubanko, Vicki Luna, Amanda Boffone, DeeDee Marsh, Shawntell McWilliams, Patti Murphy, Roxann Neumann, Susan Osterberg, Sharon Owens, Roz Pactor, Sandra Porter, Karen Remington, Heidi Rockecharlie, Stephanie Tsuru, Beth Wolff, Stuart Zarrow, Lee Boyer, Brady Carruth, Jenny Todd, Betty Hrncir, John Scott Arnoldy, Lindley Arnoldy, Courtney Freels, Robin and Danny Klaes, Leila Perrin, and Cathy Brock.
