Auction winner gets a great deal on ex-Dallas Cowboys star's incredible mansion

The former estate of ex-Dallas Cowboys star Deion Sanders went up for auction earlier this week and someone sure got a deal: just under $4 million.

The property, in the affluent Dallas suburb of Prosper, was once marketed for $21 million, but that included 109 acres, the majority of which now belongs to Bloomfield Homes Inc. It’s on the books with Collin County Appraisal District for just over $11.7 million.

The official word from Concierge Auctions president Laura Brady, who conducted the event Tuesday, is that there were eight registered bidders, there was no reserve and there is a contract on the house.

“In only five weeks, the auction outreach efforts conducted by Concierge Auctions and Briggs Freeman Sotheby’s International Realty resulted in over 27,000 views of the property video, 356 visitors to the property and 49 prospect showings,” she said.

So who bought it? I hear he is a “person of the arts” in Dallas. During the auction he stayed mostly to himself and did not engage in any banter. What he got was the 29,000-square-foot house and 9.4 acres.

The 10-bedroom, 10-bath home has just about everything a professional athlete could want, including a regulation-sized indoor basketball court, full-sized football field, tennis courts, bowling alley, media room, arcade with wet bar, barber shop, indoor and outdoor pools with spas, 14-bay garage with two bays to fit a yacht or RV, cabana and full exterior kitchen, and 8-acre lake with fountain and private dock.

There’s also an awards gallery, but the new owner could repurpose that as a wine tasting room — or art gallery, perhaps?

The master bedroom has that custom circle bed with built-in headboard and side tables, the master closet is the size of an apartment, and there is a sunken sauna tub in the master bath. The master also has a glass wall rotunda with views of pool, extensive built-in cabinetry, Brunelleschi- and Bernini-inspired columns with Corinthian capitals, black granite gas fireplace, and a walk-out patio.

This is the home the former Dallas Cowboys football star and Prime Prep Academy founder shared with his ex-wife, Pilar, and their children.

675-acre Hill Country ranch where George Strait rehearsed lists for $19.5M

Lone Woman Ranch, the Hill Country estate where country stars like George Strait, George Jones, and Ace in the Hole Band rehearsed, is up for sale for $19.5 million.

Located 65 miles from San Antonio in Hays County on 675 acres, the secluded ranch once served as an artistic getaway for emerging Texas artists. The property, listed by Olmos Park firm Republic Ranches. is named after the nearby Lone Woman Mountain, and its elevation gives an incredible view of the county. On a clear day, you can see downtown Austin.

The land comes with two residences, both built near the entrance gate. The primary stone house has original hardwood floors, a recently remodeled kitchen and bathrooms, as well as a new HVAC system. The secondary residence was used as a rehearsal space. Both have had long-term residents who made improvements, and both have their own septic systems, wells, and electric meters.

The real appeal of Lone Woman Ranch, however, is the extensive woods, creeks, and natural setting. It is next to 6,000 acres of conservation land, including Storm Ranch. The entire mountain is also included in the property, making it a veritable mini-kingdom for the owner with unobstructed privacy on three sides.

Two ponds are on the site — a 4-acre and a 1-acre — both fully stocked. Runoff from the larger pond creates picturesque seasonal limestone waterfalls.The surrounding woods are full of wildlife, including white-tailed deer, turkeys, doves, and more. The property is under wildlife exemption.

It's little wonder the ranch was a muse to so many country musicians. A network of ranch roads provides access throughout the property, including most of the way up Lone Woman, giving views around every corner. Only Strait can tell you whether his 1996 hit "King of the Mountain" was inspired by the ranch.
