What are you most thankful for? Adopted foster kids respond with touching words and pictures
When a young boy was asked to draw what he was most thankful for this year, he sketched a two-story home, a sunny sky, rain clouds and his large adoptive family.
When he was asked to compose an essay about what he was most thankful for, he had this to say:
A nice cozy house. Something to wear everyday. Money so we can buy food and water. A bed so we can sleep. I am thankful for a family that takes care of me while my parents cannot.
Kids tell it like it is.
Chase, age 9, who's a resident of Spring, was one of four winners selected as part of a Thanksgiving Art Contest organized by Comerica Bank and DePelchin Children's Center. Four winners received $1,000 and eight finalists received $500 in protected savings bank accounts for their drawings and essays that described their thoughts and feelings ahead of the year-end holidays.
After votes were tallied on Comerica's Facebook page, the winners were announced at Comerica's Annual Thanksgiving Reception, which also recognizes the financial institution's nonprofit partners. Comerica also presented DePelchin with a $2,000 donation to support the organization's mental health, foster care and adoption initiatives.
