Street party on a bridge over Buffalo Bayou raises a record $590,000

Where: On the historic Sabine Street Bridge which crosses Buffalo Bayou.
The 411: More than 650 guests, a record in itself, helped raise a record $590,000 as the bayou's cachet soars with the Shepherd to Sabine project. After strolling along the Sabine Promenade and enjoying cocktails, guests gathered beneath Jo Ann Fleischhauer’s Parasol Project installation on the bridge for a seated dinner. The Garden Club of Houston, represented by president Sue White, and River Oaks Garden Club, represented by Susan Peterson, were honored on the evening themed "Green & Growing." Chairs Kelty Crain and Verlinde Doubleday led the fundraising effort.
Who: Bayou supporters included Mayor Annise Parker, who addressed the gathering, plus partnership president Anne Olson, board chair Sis Johnson, city parks director Joe Turner, Nancy and Rich Kinder, Tricia and Lt. Gov. David Dewhurst, Christina and Mark Hanson, Roxann and Tim Neumann, Sharon Adams and Jo and Jim Furr.
