Unleashed For Fun
Raucous revelers go bonkers for the '80s — drag queens included — as the partying goes to the dogs
While the canines were on their best behavior, we can't say the same for some of the partygoers at Hughes Hangar when K9s4COPS held its fourth annual "Unleashed" benefit.
Amid the serious mission of honoring outstanding police dogs and their masters, there was a raucous note (and why not so close to Halloween) that found guests costuming in their favorite '80s garb, a few drag queens included.
More than 475 guests turned out for the fundraiser chaired by Jenna Jackson and K9s4COPS founder Kristi Schiller. Since its founding in 2010, the non-profit has placed 85 canines with various police agencies.
On the sober side of the evening, Top Dog Awards for fighting crime went to Harris County Sheriff Deputies Jason Bullock and K9 Tommy; Narcotics K9 of the Year to David Thomas and K9 Boomer; Patrol K9 of the Year Deputy Johnny Walker and K9 Gorbi; Explosives K9 of the Year Deputy Alex Chapa and K9 Rocco; with K9 Rookie of the Year award going to Harris County Constable Pct 1 Chance Davis.
Ceremonies included a surprise presentation of a canine crime fighter to Harris County Sheriff's Office Sgt. Chris Moore.
Radio drive time star Dayna Steele emceed the evening that included a canine-related auction and jamming to the Spazmatics.
The party crowd included Constable Alan Rosen, Sheriff Adrian Garcia, John Schiller and daughter Sinclair, Precinct 1 Chief Kevin Maples and Alyssa Maples, Laurie and Tracy Krohn, Harris County Commissioner Jack Cagle, Beccy Cooke and Jack Rains, Roy Marsh and Felicia Harris and John Hoss.
