    GRAND SLAM ASTROS LOOKS

Where to shop for Houston Astros looks: 8 fab finds for fierce fashionistas

    Julia Davila
    Oct 28, 2021 | 3:17 pm

We’re back! With the World Series now tied 1-1 with the Atlanta Braves and our beloved boys in orange and blue headed to the ATL, it’s time to cheer on the Houston Astros in style.

No need to Google: These local shops offer winning apparel and accessories for the most fashionable fans. Suit up, grab a Bregman and McCullers-crafted ThreeSun, and scream for the team.

    Alchemia
The half zip sweatshirt is a modern interpretation of a classic silhouette — and one that can be worn outside the house without feeling like you just rolled out of bed. Wear frayed jeans for a casual choice.

    Carla Valencia Design
Jazz up your favorite game-day crossbody with a one-of-a-kind strap. The No Blues Here Astros strap features an orange glitter ribbon trim, layered with a gold and royal blue floral trim and blue and orange ombre tassels.

Cufflinks don’t have to be just for weddings and formal occasions — don’t be afraid to experiment with them in your everyday wear. The Clutch City cufflinks are a subtle yet timeless addition to your outfit.

    Frock Shop
Looking to stand out in the crowd of orange? Look no further than a sparkly orange bomber jacket.

    Inclán Studio
With cooler temperatures in Houston, the Amelia Dress can be paired with a denim jacket or cashmere sweater for a comfortable and stylish look.

    Mariquita Masterson
Adorn your ears with the easily recognizable royal blue glass earrings from jewelry designer Mariquita Masterson.

    Tenenbaum Jewelers
Look to vintage and estate jewelry from Tenenbaum’s Astros collection — sapphires, citrine, diamonds, and lapis.

    Tootsies
The Upper Kirby women’s luxury store has pulled together an assortment of apparel, accessories, and shoes in blue and orange, including a playful frock from Amur, a Vince top, kicks from Alexander McQueen, denim from Mother, and a jacket from Houston-based women's contemporary line, Hunter Bell NYC.

The Amelia Dress from Inclán Studio is our top pick from the women's ready-to-wear line.

    SUSTAINABLE STYLE

Houston fashionistas embrace sustainable shopping at citywide clothing swap

Co-founders Sam Lopez, Diana Cwick, and Raquel Sandate built The Houston Clothing Swap into a thriving nonprofit from a living room idea.

In closets across Houston, people have growing piles of clothes that no longer fit, no longer match their personal style, or simply don't get worn anymore. Donating or selling the clothes on sites like Mecari or Depop sounds good until measuring and photographing each item becomes a chore that never seems to get done.

The Houston Clothing Swap is turning the tedious task of closet decluttering into a fun, community event. Participants can get rid of unwanted clothing, shoes, and accessories and take home as many new-to-them items as they like, for only a $10 admission fee — all of the clothing is free. It is a win-win that keeps fast fashion at bay and closes the loop on donating and reusing clothing while keeping perfectly good pieces out of the landfill.

The Houston Clothing Swap was co-founded by friends Sam Lopez, Raquel Sandate, and Diana Cwick. What began in 2019 as a small exchange between friends in Sandate's living room grew into swaps at local markets. Eventually, it gained enough momentum for the trio to foundConscious Consumer Collective, a non-profit that makes clothing more accessible to those who need it either for school, work, or to feel more confident in their style choices.

According to Lopez, the Houston Clothing Swap's first event had 200-300 attendees, and their second event had 400-500. They are projecting that their third official event on Sunday, April 27 will have over 1,000 eager swappers in attendance.

"We are in such a surplus of clothing, shoes, and accessories globally that nobody ever needs to buy new, never needs to go without, and never needs to consume at the expense of the Earth," said Lopez in a recentinterview with Heights magazine. "Once we start becoming conscious consumers, we can all do our part to save the world."

The event is open to the public and will have size-inclusive clothing, shoes, and accessories. However, people bringing clothes should remember a few rules. Participants can donate and take as much as they want. All donations should be brought on plastic hangers or neatly folded. Attendees should bring their own reusable bags for shopping. The Houston Clothing Swap will not accept toys, home decor, bras, underwear, or clothes that are torn, stained, or dirty. There is a $10 entry fee, and early donations and drop-offs are available for expedited entry on the day of the event. For more information and a complete list of frequently asked questions, check out this Instagram post.
