Selecting a theme for the 16th annual Jeans & Jewels gala benefiting Northwest Assistance Ministries, gala chairs Courtney Cook and Vicki Morrison focused on the honorees — Robin and Jack Burke, co-founder of Champions Golf Club.
With the couple's interest in golf and his service in World War II, the chairs chose "A Salute to Swing" as the theme. With that, a 1940s decor was erected, the Richard Brown Orchestra played plenty of swing tunes and guests could post for photos (period accessories included) with a 1947 Lincoln cabriolet.
Fundraising was fervid with $103,000 raised in the Stand Up for NAM appeal for the non-profit's Emergency Basic Needs program. By the time the auctions were tallied along with ticket sales and the pledges, NAM coffers were enriched by $716,000.
In addition to NAM, big winners were Candice and Ed Tyrrell, who won the Oahu vacation raffle, and Linda and Joe Fowler who won $4,000 worth of fine wines donated by Serious Cigars.
Contributing to the evening's success were major sponsors the Fowlers, Houston Methodist, Reneé and Danny Rea, Jackie and Pat Riley, Judy and Glenn Smith, Ultra Petroleum Corporation, CenterPoint Energy, Cindy and Scott Chenoweth, Cynthia and Richard Foley and the Rob and Ann McKee Family Foundation. Joining the fundraising effort were the chairs' husbands, David Cook and Ron Morrison.
