Bonus Round
Attention frequent flyers: United and Southwest airlines offer double miles
United and Southwest airlines are in a generous — and competitive — mood. Both airlines are offering members of their frequent flyer programs the opportunity to earn double miles on flights. But the promotion doesn't last long.
Southwest is offering double Rapid Rewards frequent-flyer points on all new tickets booked between now and Nov. 21. Registration is required prior to travel.
Travelers will receive 12 bonus points per dollar spent on Southwest's "Business Select" fares, 10 bonus points per dollar spent on "Anytime" fares, and six bonus points per dollar spent on the carrier's lowest tier "Wanna Get Away," in addition to the standard flight points received for each fare.
United quickly followed suit. Members of the airline’s MileagePlus loyalty program can earn unlimited double-award miles on United and United Express flight segments booked between now and Nov. 21 for travel within the United States, excluding Alaska and Hawaii.
To earn double miles, customers must register at www.united.com/promoregistration and simply enter promotion code TB2M06 and their MileagePlus account number.
The United offer awards double redeemable miles, but does not double "qualifying" miles that count toward frequent-flyer status. The offer also excludes some fare classes (T, L, K, G, N) most-often associated with special or deeply-discounted fares.
