Stilettos on Parade
Well-heeled guests join fashionista parade at Stiletto Strut to raise funds for breast cancer research
"Oh, my aching feet" was not allowed at the Galleria during the Neiman Marcus Stiletto Strut as several hundred literally well-heeled guests joined the fashionista parade that flowed from a champagne reception at the store to the Westin Galleria Hotel.
For those who might have needed to step up their tertiary splendor for the fundraiser, the bubbly was poured in the shoe salon.
By the time all seats were taken for lunch in the Westin ballroom, more than 450 had joined the effort in raising funds for breast cancer research at the Lester and Sue Smith Breast Center at Baylor College of Medicine. The event brought in more than $300,000.
Applause, applause for chair Megan Hotze and co-chairs Shelly Smith Hendry and Limor Smith and honorary chair Jan Duncan.
Emcee Dominique Sachse of KPRC Channel 2 introduced eight breast cancer survivors — Joan Risinger, Shakti Dalal, Alyson Haas, Cynthia Edwards, Kafi Slaughter, Samina Farid, Heather Losado and Mabel Ugbanaja — who strolled the catwalk, escorted by David Smalling, Jeffrey Yates, Henry Richardson, Erik Carrington, Tommy Evans, Andrew Hayes, Hernan Vargas and Luke Hotze.
The program included presentation of the C. Kent Osborne Award for Medical Excellence to Dr. Mothaffar Rimawi, medical director of the Smith Breast Center. The award was presented by Lester Smith and by Dr. C. Kent Osborne, director of the Dan L. Duncan Cancer Center at Baylor College of Medicine.
High-steppers applauding the Neiman Marcus fashion show that followed included Baylor College of Medicine president and CEO Dr. Paul Klotman, Sue Smith, Cora Sue Mach, Sidney Faust, Tiffany Smith, Lacy Baird, Lara Rimawi, Gini Gaston, Becky Cooke and Sherry Menger.
