Lyle Lovett headlines Galveston's Bryan Museum inaugural gala, big honors presented
What: The Bryan Museum in Galveston inaugural gala.
Where: The Bryan Museum campus.
The scoop: Lyle Lovett struck a positive chord with the gathering of more than 300 as he provided an after-dinner concert for the casually attired group. The museum's founders Mary Jon and J.P. Bryan welcomed the contingent that included Texas Historical Commission chair John Nau. He was on hand to present the Bryans with the John L. Nau III Award of Excellence in Museums.
Guests sat down for dinner in the conservatory and pavilion of the Gothic Revival, circa 1895, structure that served as an orphanage for nearly 100 years. Chef Grady Spears provided the cowboy cuisine.
Proceeds from the evening are earmarked for the children's center of the museum that is dedicated to preserving and promoting the history and art of the American West. Think 70,000 items, spanning 12,000 years with treasures ranging from ancient Native American cultural artifacts to 21st century pieces.
Who: Chairs Martha Turner and Glenn Bauguss, Texas Historical Commission executive director Mark Wolfe, Katie and Pat Oxford, Linda and Steve Ivy, and Charlene and Gail Crawford.
