Houston's Post Oak Hotel uncorks flight of once-in-a-lifetime wine experiences

    CultureMap Create
    Sep 19, 2019 | 12:00 pm

Tilman Fertitta's Post Oak Hotel is the epitome of luxury, so it's no surprise that beneath its beautiful facade lies an unbelievable destination that's an oenophile’s utopia.

The Cellar is an intimate wine room created for bespoke experiences, exclusive social gatherings, and world-class private dining. Not only is it an exquisite space that inspires thoughts of a French chateau or Tuscan villa, but it's also the home base for the hotel's astonishing collection of more than 30,000 bottles, which are served throughout the property.

There's more than $3.5 million worth of inventory curated by the hotel's Advanced and Master Sommeliers, with wines spanning more than 23 countries and three centuries, with some vintages dating back to the 1800s.

So how do you get to try some? Well, besides being available through in-room dining and at all Post Oak Hotel restaurants — including Mastro's Steakhouse, Willie G's Seafood, Bloom & Bee, Craft F&B, and H BAR — the selections can be sampled during the Sommelier Series.

These dream dinners present each lucky guest with the opportunity to sip from rare bottles while learning from the sommeliers, all while enjoying artfully paired cuisine presented by the hotel's celebrated culinary team.

If this has you salivating, you'll want to get tickets to the next event on September 27. Napa vs. Sonoma will be a "battle royale" between two of California's finest regions, with the likes of Chappellet Chenin Blanc, Littorai Pinot Noir, and Laurel Glen Cabernet Sauvignon filling your glass. You can preview the full menu here, and reserve tickets here.

Seeking an even more exclusive outing? Try The Post Oak Hotel's $1 Million Wine Experience.

The once-in-a-lifetime package provides an opportunity to enjoy 43 vintages of Chateau Mouton Rothschild in magnums and "his-and-hers" Bentleys. Plus, the buyer gets to invite up to 10 guests and experience up to four customizable wine dinners, which include overnight stays at The Post Oak Hotel.

"Chateau Mouton Rothschild is one of the most celebrated wineries in the world, and the mere thought of pairing these with world-class Bentley automobiles is nothing short of epic," says Keith Goldston, Master Sommelier at The Post Oak Hotel, recipient of the illustrious Krug Cup trophy and curator of the awe-inspiring, multimillion-dollar collection. "Offering a collection of 43 vintages of Chateau Mouton Rothschild in magnums is extremely rare, and drinking them over the course of four intimate private dinners is even more extraordinary."

    Additional package highlights include:

    • His-and-hers luxury Bentley vehicles: a 2020 Continental GT Convertible and a 2020 limited edition Bentayga.
    • A series of customizable gourmet wine dinners held at The Post Oak Hotel, each featuring multiple vintages of Chateau Mouton Rothschild, created and prepared by executive chef Jean Luc Royere and hosted by Master Sommelier Keith Goldston.
    • Overnight hotel accommodations for the buyer and his or her guests at The Post Oak Hotel, the only AAA Five-Diamond property in Houston.

To book the $1 Million Wine Experience, email thecellar@thepostoak.com or call 713-614-1395.

An inner loop Italian restaurant known for its chic design and polished service is ready to makes it debut in The Woodlands. Bari Ristorante will open its second location on Wednesday, September 30.

Located in the former Tris space at 24 Waterway Ave., Bari’s interior will follow the template of its original location in River Oaks District that opened in May 2023. Details include lava-rock wallcoverings, Spanish wallpaper, Lladro chandeliers, and the signature pink salt wall. Overall, the 9,000-square-foot restaurant will seat 250 people, including two private dining rooms and a dedicated bar and lounge area.

Bari Hospitality Group corporate chef Renato de Pirro worked with Bari Woodlands executive chef Marcelo Mintz to create a menu that utilizes ingredients such as European cheeses, dry-cured meats, European fish, and pastas made in-house with imported Italian flour.

Many of the most popular dishes from Bari’s original location are available in The Woodlands, including fritto misto, pappardelle bolognese, and tableside preparations such as branzino alla griglia and truffle pasta. In addition, the chefs have added new dishes such as a ham and melon salad, crab fingers “scampi,” arancini, and pesto risotto with prawns.

Honoring the space’s legacy as a steakhouse, Bari will serve chateaubriand and Fiorentina, both of which will be carved tableside. Weekday happy hour will include $10 burgers, $10 individual pizzas, and other specials.

The restaurant will be open for dinner daily. Lunch will be served Monday through Friday, with weekend brunch beginning Sunday, October 4.

Bari opens at a busy time for new restaurants in The Woodlands. Charolais by Chef Austin Simmons, a new steakhouse from the former Tris chef, opened in July. Bar Bludorn will join Bai in The Woodlands Waterway beginning Friday, October 2.
