Cowgirl couture: Chanel Paris - Dallas collection is inspired by Houston jetsetter
It's not exactly like walking into Cavender's. But the temporary Chanel boutique in the Galleria — a teepee-sized location behind the store, which is undergoing a massive renovation — has a western vibe with the arrival of Karl Lagerfeld's Paris - Dallas pre-fall collection.
The collection, which was unveiled in Dallas last December in a big show that drew Hollywood celebrities and top fashion magazine editors, is Lagerfeld's vision of the Texas woman, based on his friendship with Houston international jetsetter Lynn Wyatt. There's plenty for the Chanel cowgirl to wear on the ranch, with blanket coats, fringe skirts, tight denim jeans and colorful poncho sweaters dotting the collection.
Some of it looks a little costumey, but there are plenty of individual pieces — white blouses, denim vests, leather skirts and suede booties with the interlocking Chanel C's — that will fit into just about any Texas woman's wardrobe. And for evening, a black tulle gown dotted with silver stars, has a dressed-up, yet down-home vibe, particularly when paired with a quilted denim jacket trimmed in gold piping.
The collection also includes offerings for the city girl, too, with several versions of the classic Chanel suit with fringed hem — some accessorized with pearls and a cowboy hat.
Isn't that how every Texas woman dresses?
