What: University of Texas M.D. Anderson Cancer Center's 18th annual "Making Cancer History" seminar and cocktail buffet in Aspen.
Where: Aspen Meadows Resort and the home of Barbara and Gerald Hines.
The scoop: In celebration of the annual seminar spotlighting M.D. Anderson research, more than 200 supporters of the cancer center gathered on the lawn of the Hines home for a St. Barth's themed evening. While rain showers diminished the sunny theme, guests managed to enjoy the festivities.
Imagine tropical flowers, a tiki bar, and cocktails served in coconuts dressed with paper umbrellas, playing out at an altitude of 8,000 feet. A massive white tent with sea-blue and coral-hued drapes and dressed in St. Barth's style decor protected the chichi crowd from the weather. As is tradition with the evening, Barbara Hines, a talented painter, auctioned several of her paintings for the benefit of M.D. Anderson.
Key figures in the gathering were M.D. Anderson president Dr. Ron DePinho, Board of Visitors chair Mel Klein of Corpus Christi, professor/scientist Michael Curran, and Dr. Lois Ramondetta.
