With offices in both Houston and New York and with his publisher based in Manhattan, it only made sense that trial lawyer David Berg would hold his book launch party at Michael's in Midtown West, the site of his first book signing a decade ago.
While his first tome (The Trial Lawyer, What It Takes to Win) was all about the legal profession, his current book Run, Brother, Run hits much closer to home. The gritty personal memoir details the 1968 murder of his older brother for which Charles Harrelson, father of actor Woody Harrelson, was the accused killer.
It was a swell crowd that turned out for the book signing where Berg was introduced by Lorin Stein, editor-in-chief of the Paris Review, and Colin Harrison, Berg's editor and editor-in-chief of Scribner. Among the notables were artists Donald Sultan and John Alexander, New York Times columnist Bill Keller, 60 Minutes' Morley Safer and Steve Kroft with his wife, author Jenny Conant.
Berg brings it home this week with a book signing at the Avalon diner. Stay tuned.

Reason to celebrate
Dr. Amber Cotton pulled out the stops Friday night in honor of her husband, Dr. Ronald Cotton, in celebration of his completing his surgery residency at Baylor College of Medicine. She invited 50 or so friends to party on the balcony at RDG + Bar Annie where they had loads of food and drink, a combo played and fans whirled to keep the high temps at bay. This was such an outdoorsy crowd that they opted not to move into the air-conditioned space that RDG's Mimi Del Grande had reserved for them.
The revelers included Jason Payne, Brian Davis, Kareem Dale and Dr. Ramyar Gilani. A native Houstonian, Ronald Cotton's next learning adventure is a fellowship at Baylor in liver transplantation.
