Outrageous Wedding Cakes
Houston chef's 12-tier wedding cake, dusted in 22-karat lustrous gold, shakes up The Food Network
When The Food Network originally reached out to Who Made the Cake!'s Nadine Moon, they asked her to reproduce her 10-foot tall "Cinderella's Carriage" cake that she had created for the seventh wedding anniversary of then-Green Bay Packer, Ryan Pickett. The network was casting its Outrageous Wedding Cakes series and wanted something spectacular.
Moon declined to recreate that 10-foot high wonder but instead offered several other possibilities. "I suggested a couple of other 'Outrageous Wedding Cakes' we were creating for actual clients," she said adding "cakes that I would be willing to be filmed working on."
The couple was surprised with the 12-tier, 6-foot tall extravaganza that was embellished with hundreds of sugar flowers.
The crew filmed Moon and her staff working from 7:30 in the morning until 6 p.m. after delivering the cake to the Corinthian where the wedding reception was held.
"If you look closely at the filming, you will notice that our cake is all real," she said, "with the reveal taking place at the actual reception with the bride and groom on their big day."
The happy couple, Leah Moreau and Carlos Murillo, was surprised with the 12-tier, 6-foot tall extravaganza that was embellished with hundreds of sugar flowers and highlighted with 22-karat gold luster dust. The program that originally aired on Sunday afternoon will be shown again Friday (June 19) at 2 p.m.
"Overall, it was an incredibly positive experience," Moon said. "And I am so happy that the cake came across on screen as a true reflection of the beautiful, elegant cakes I am known for creating."
