Since its founding two decades ago, Small Steps Nurturing Center has captured the attention of the city's energy industry elite with members continually supporting the non-profit's annual golf tournament and the annual wine classic dinner.
Small Steps board president is Justin Loweth of Seneca Resources Corp. while vice president is Jerry Crews of EnergyQuest II and board secretary is Wynne Snoots of EnCap Investments. With the energy industry support and in spite of problematic prices in the oilfield, the evening raised more than $600,000 for the school that supports early education for at-risk children in the inner-city.
The sixth annual wine classic dinner was chaired by Leslie and Michael Fertitta of Hilcorp Energy Co. and Katherine and Doug George. Close to 550 guests joined the event in an open-sided tent located on the grounds of a private club adjacent to the Houston Polo Club.
Taking bows on this evening were honorees Jessica and Fred Brazelton, long-time board members of the non-profit.
The "French Farm" dinner theme featured four courses paired with appropriate wines that were discussed by Vilma Mazaite, advanced sommelier and director of wine at laV restaurant and wine bar in Austin.
The dinner crowd, dressed for a spring soirée, included Carolyn and David Light, Sarah and Doug Foshee, Amy and Wynne Snoots, Susan and David Light, Shelley and Lewis Brazelton, Liane and Marty Phillips, Kelli and John Weinzierl, Julie and John Howie and Kathleen and Townes Pressler.
