The Blind Side mom captivates luncheon audience; Texas Bowl donates proceeds from big game
What: DePelchin Children's Center "Families for Kids" luncheon.
Where: River Oaks Country Club.
The 411: Leigh Ann Tuohy, the real life mom of "The Blind Side" pushed home the message of the importance of a healthy family environment for children of all ages. While her talk was inspiring, she might have been preaching to the choir as this crowd was already fully on board with the agency's mission.
The event honored members of the Lovett family, who have been serving on the board for several generations since 1929. H. Malcom Lovett was the first to support DePelchin followed by others, including H. Malcolm Lovett Jr., Pamela House Lovett and Mary Eliza Lovett Shaper.
Helping raise $462,000 were chairs Ginni and Richard Mithoff and co-chairs Sue Nan and Rod Cutsinger and Pat and Tom Powers. Fundraising highlight was the $150,000 check from AdvoCare V100 Texas Bowl board chairman Chris Hanslik, proceeds from the 2014 bowl game.
Who: Mary Nell Lovett, Park Shaper, Flo McGee, Ellen and John Bass, Jackie and Connelly McGreevy, Hannah McNair, Joe Greenberg, Judy Tate, Debra and Mark Gregg, Linda McReynolds, Kristina Somerville and Gail and Willie Richardson.
