Zoo Ball
It's a wild night at the Houston Zoo Ball with Aquatic Affair and after party
It was a wild night at the Houston Zoo Ball, and we’re not talking about the animals. Music by Dallas cover band IDT brought the house down at the lively after-party, hosted by the zoo’s young professionals group, Flock.
The dynamic group performed one hit after another, including songs by popular artists like Bruno Mars and Pitbull, as attendees on the bright turquoise dance floor tossed plastic beach balls around and refueled with bites from a pretzel stand and a popcorn station.
Before the blowout dance party, 450 guests were greeted by small zoo animals, from a chinchilla named Summer to a porcupine, and their handlers as they entered the black-tie ball, chaired by Susie and Joe Dilg.
Once inside the zoo’s tented event space, Masihara Pavilion, which was transformed to match the gala theme, “Aquatic Affair,” with a sea of turquoise tablecloths, white hydrangea floral centerpieces, and glistening gold chandeliers, guests enjoyed a multi-course dinner featuring braised short rib served over stone-ground grits created by the zoo’s new in-house catering group, Taste.
Houston Zoo CEO and president Lee Ehmke thanked the crowd and presented a short video about the zoo’s accomplishments.
Items from a live auction, including naming rights to the next sea lion pup born at the Houston Zoo that went for a cool $11,000, and a silent auction added to the tally for the evening, which totaled over $1 million dollars to support the Houston Zoo.
Seen in the crowd were Tim Roberts, Roxanne Almaraz, Bobbie Nau, Candace and Brian Thomas, Cathy and Joe Cleary, Cullen Geiselman, Molly and Coert Voorhees, Myrtle Jones, Elizabeth and Jud Wolfe, Leticia and Steve Trauber, Soraya and Scott McClelland, Leslie and Shannon Sasser, Alie and Dave Pruner, Beverly and Jim Postl, and Anne Chao.
