Petite Sweets Goes Big
Upper Kirby pastry shop specializing in small bites goes big with full-size cakes and pies
What was once petite has grown up a bit.
Diners have been going to Upper Kirby dessert shop Petite Sweets for mini cupcakes, cake balls, macarons, and frozen custard since it opened in 2011. Treats like bacon-topped cupcakes demonstrate pastry chef Susan Molzan's deft ability to balance sweet and savory flavors.
But still, what about those occasions when someone wants something a little more full-size? Now Petite Sweets has that covered, too, thanks to its recently introduced Suzie's lineup of cookies, cakes, pies, and shakes. Available whole or by the slice, the Suzie's line offers bigger portions in a diverse array of flavors: everything from Molzan's signature cherry pie to classics like Hummingbird cake and more contemporary favorites like banana Nutella.
“Customers have constantly requested and told me that they have really missed the cakes and pies that I love to bake and that I am really known for, so we decided to give them what they want,” said Molzan in a statement. “Lee Ellis (Petite Sweets co-owner) loved the idea and even came up with the special name. Now ‘Suzie’s’ is available at Petite Sweets.”
Cakes are $45 for a whole or $6.50 for a slice, while pies are $28/$5.50. Special orders require three days advance notice.
