With seven alluring supermodels as the support group and five powerhouse gents — including Roger Clemens — as chairs, how could the I Am Waters Foundation luncheon be anything less than a roaring success? Only in its second year, the luncheon raised more than $400,000, an enviable figure for even the most established non-profits.
Hats off to I Am Waters founder Elena Davis, backed by her number one fan, husband Gregg Davis, for the concept of supplying bottles of clean water labeled with words of hope to homeless across the country. Since its founding just a few years ago, the charity has distributed 1 million bottles of water, working with homeless shelters and service organizations in Houston, Dallas and New Orleans.
Joining Gregg on stage in Minute Maid Park's Union Station were what he called his "male super model colleagues" and luncheon chairs Paul Hobby, Richard Fant, Steve Trauber and Clemens. Adding baseball spice to the event was former Houston Astro J. R. Richard.
This year as last, Elena, a former top model herself, lined up a glam group for fundraising support — former Miss USA Crystle Stewart and veteran super models Jerry Hall, Joan Severance, Kelly Emberg, Kim Alexis and Sports Illustrated swimsuit model and native Texan Julie Henderson. For a nice sum, guests could have their photos taken surrounded by the beauties.
Emmy Award-winning sportscaster Jim Gray flew in to serve as emcee for his longtime friends, the Davises. The program included moving testimonials from leaders of six organizations that have received the bottles of water.
Soaking it in were guests that included Terri and John Havens, Lynn Wyatt, Martha and José Oti, Cathy and Giorgio Borlenghi, Janet Hobby, Jana Fant, Kate and Steve Gibson, David Wuthrich, Zeina Fares, Estela Cockrell, Thurmon Andress, Laurie and Tracy Krohn, Rosemarie Johnson, Jeff Shell, Veronica Schiller, Renee Somoza and John Tamborello.
