It was throwback Thursday on a recent Saturday night when KC and the Sunshine Band rolled into H-Town to help PFS Group (Patient Financial Services) celebrate the firm's 10th anniversary. Think a gazillion disco balls, retro disco skaters dispensing Jello shots and Reverend Butter's chainsaw roaring as he created an anniversary ice sculpture.
More than 600 employees, clients (which include Memorial Hermann and Houston Methodist) and friends joined the bash at Silver Street Studios.
In a 1980s frame of mind, event planner Deborah Elias created a swank disco-themed party scene complete with walls of silver and red balloons, bars featuring disco ball glasses and cupcakes topped with disco balls.
"I really wanted this to have the look and feel of a modern disco."
"This event was produced for one of my favorite clients. I am usually given a budget and a guest list and not much else, so I get to have a lot of fun surprising them," Elias said. "I really wanted this to have the look and feel of a modern disco. I used balloon walls for the first time and loved the way they reflected the light."
PFS president Jeff Gorski left his buttoned down persona at the office for the rocking party that featured not only KC and his troupe but also, later in the night, a DJ that appeared to be floating above the party scene, thanks to clever scaffolding and screens.
Guests grazed through the pasture of food stations including Asian action, grilling and gourmet French fries and tacos, all under the talents of Bailey Connor Catering. As they were heading home, the H-Town strEats food truck provided midnight treats while the valets ran for cars.
Elias considered it no small coup that two of her performers had been on national television only the week before — Reverend Butter on CBS Sunday Morning and KC (Harry Casey) on Oprah Winfrey's Where Are They Now.
