Nurses lauded for their good work at St. Luke's luncheon with emcee in her pajamas
Nurse Mario Trevino was honored enough at the St. Luke's Foundation Friends of Nursing luncheon where he received the Friends of Nursing award for excellence. But he was soon over the moon when Lindsey Holstead, who won the raffle for a week in the Cayman Islands raffle, turned the $10,000 trip over to him.
That was just a sampling of the appreciation flowing toward those in the nursing profession during the fundraiser at River Oaks Country Club.
Six nurses walked the runway, to generous applause, in fashions from Neiman Marcus. Dr. William Brien, VP of medical operations at Baylor St. Luke's Medical Center, noted, "A hospital can run for days without doctors, but only a few hours without nurses."
Millette Sherman, Elizabeth Vail and Kiki Wilson chaired the event for which a pajama-clad Deborah Duncanserved as emcee. It seems that the KHOU Channel 11 morning show host had worn the pajamas for a segment on Great Day Houston and had forgotten to pack her luncheon attire. The outfit made for great fun as Duncan strutted her stuff down the catwalk to the applause of the 275 guests.
Helping raise funds for nursing education were Susan Hansen, Sylvie Crum, Rose Cullen, Jana Arnoldy, Clayton Erikson, Phoebe Tudor, Patsy Fourticq, Donna Vallone, Susan Sarofim, Sandy Barrett, Kristina Somerville, and Dr. David Berger, Baylor St. Luke’s Medical Center senior VP and COO.
