The Houston Zoo gets some fancy new golf carts: Ready for a solar ride?
Mar 23, 2013 | 1:04 pm
The Bayou City has taken another step toward going green: This week, the Houston Zoo converted the remainder its on-ground golf cart fleet to run on solar power.
Conversion of the fleet first began in 2010 with a $50,000 donation from NRG Energy and Reliant, and a second $50,000 grant from the pair meant the 18 remaining electric vehicles could harness the power of the sun.
NRG and Reliant volunteers stepped in to help Houston Zoo facilities personnel install the solar panels — no more plugging in or electricity squandering for these folks.
