Sporty Attitude
She's got game: Tory Burch fall collection combines sporty attitude and equestrian style
Tory Burch sure is a good sport. Her fall collection, unveiled at Lincoln Center during New York Fashion Week, incorporates her love of horseback riding, with bold equestrian prints and jockey-silk patterns, along with track suits, pants and polo shirts mixed in from her new Tory Sport collection.
Burch opens and closes the collection with a horsey theme, leading off with a series of overcoats, peacoats, skirts and tops in multi-colored jockey-patterns and ending with jackets, tunics, pants and sweaters in an eye-catching horsehead print of contrasting colors — an orange and purple horsehead print dress is a highlight.
She mixes in track pants from her Tory Sport collection with a diamond patterned sequin and satin crepe sweater and shows a shearling bomber jacket with Tory Sport tomato-red track pants, indicating that nowadays women can easily mix sport styles into their more traditional wardrobe.
The middle of the 41-look collection is more urban and urbane, in keeping with Burch's other inspiration — Eric Rohemer's 1972 filmL'amour l'apres-midi(in the United States, the classic film was titled Chloe in the Afternoon). Paisley print dresses, skirts and jackets in a purple chain pattern and tiny floral printed tunic dresses, pants and blouses infuse the collection with a kicky '70s attitude, for those times when a woman doesn't feel quite as sporty but wants to have fun.
