Courageous plastic surgeon inspires an $800,000 night at River Oaks Country Club
What:Young Life's "Transforming Lives" dinner.
Where: River Oaks Country Club.
The 411: With Kim and Chuck Watson at the helm as chairs and Doris and Terry Looper as honorary chairs, the benefit raised more than $800,000 for the Christian-based program for young adults.
Inspiration for the giving came in no small part thanks to the talk by Dr. Gene Alford, world-renowned specialist in facial plastic and reconstructive surgery.
In 2007, he suffered a spinal chord injury from a falling tree that left him paralyzed from the waist down. After 10 months in the hospital and grueling rehabilitation, Alford fought his way back to performing surgery and now operates from an electric wheelchair. He spoke on fear, family and faith and the world of possibilities that profound faith can present.
