    Restaurant Game Changer

The high-end steakhouse craze hits Galveston: New restaurant is an island changer

    Eric Sandler
    Dec 12, 2013 | 1:34 pm

Galveston visitors who are looking for an upscale atmosphere but want a change from the typical destinations of Rudy and Paco's or Gaido's have a new dining option. Number 13 Prime Steak and Seafood opened this month with a promise to serve high-end steak, top-notch seafood and hand-crafted cocktails.

Located in a two-story building in the Pelican Rest Marina, Number 13 features waterfront views from both inside the dining room. The Terrace provides a more casual setting for diners who are arriving fresh off the beach or boat.

"At Number 13, we believe in creating an atmosphere that is both elegant and relaxed,” Eric Nelson, vice president of culinary operations, said in a statement. “We’ve thought about every detail that will make dining with us an unforgettable experience."

Hanin is utilizing local/regional ingredients and purchasing from local purveyors .

Turning to the menu, chef Jason Hanin blends steakhouse classics like shrimp cocktail and a wedge salad with seasonal items like a crudo of the day and a rotating selection of housemade charcuterie. Hanin is utilizing local/regional ingredients and purchasing from local purveyors.

"Using fresh, local ingredients is important to us and it won’t be uncommon to see some dishes change with the season based on what’s available," Hanin said.

The steakhouse revival that's seen The Palm perform a ground-up, $5 million renovation and Tony Vallone re-launch Vallone's has come to the island. But even with the arrival of a fine dining restaurant, fear not, Shrimp N Stuff isn't going anywhere.

Number 13 is open for lunch and dinner Tuesday through Sunday. Brunch will follow on Sundays in a few weeks.

George Bush Intercontinental lauded among 50 best airports worldwide

Houstonians are in safe hands at George Bush Intercontinental Airport.

George Bush Intercontinental Airport (IAH) is flying high upon being included in Travel and Tour World's prestigious new ranking the "50 Best Airports in the World for 2026."

IAH was recognized as a "smart airport leader" and ranked as the 50th best airport worldwide.

According to the report's methodology, the 50 best airports are those that set "the global benchmark for intelligent aviation infrastructure" by integrating "smart technologies" such as artificial intelligence (AI), biometrics, automation, and other advanced methods to support "airport operations, passenger experience, and sustainable travel initiatives."

Travel and Tour World noted IAH's use of "intelligent airfield management, automated baggage systems, and predictive analytics" that keep the busy airport operating as smoothly as possible, though the recent holiday season saw spikes in passenger traffic and travelers' stress levels.

"Data-driven operations enhance efficiency, safety, and scalability, positioning IAH as a technologically robust hub serving energy, business, and long-haul global travel markets," the report said.

IAH was not the sole Texas airport to make the list; Dallas/Fort Worth International Airport (DFW) ranked No. 18 worldwide. The report said DFW uses the same high-tech systems as IAH to strengthen its reputation as one of the "most operationally advanced and resilient aviation hubs" in the U.S.

Travel and Tour World named Dubai International Airport the No. 1 best airport globally with Singapore Changi Airport (No. 2) and San Francisco International Airport (No. 3) rounding out the top three.

"Smart airports are no longer defined by isolated technology deployments, but by how deeply intelligence is embedded across operations, passenger experience, sustainability, and enterprise decision-making," said Travel and Tour World founder and editor-in-chief Anup Kumar Keshan. "The 2026 rankings recognize airports that have moved decisively beyond experimentation into scaled, real-world execution. Where AI, biometrics, automation, and integrated data ecosystems function as mission-critical infrastructure."
