United's first 787 Dreamliner takes off from Bush Intercontinental — with CEOJeff Smisek in coach
United Airlines' first Boeing 787 Dreamliner of an anticipated 50-aircraft fleet took off from Houston's George Bush Intercontinental on Saturday, drawing crowds of media and airplane enthusiasts to witness a ribbon-cutting by United president and CEO Jeff Smisek and experience the jet in flight.
Today's Pix of the Day comes from Chris Sloan, the airline enthusiast behind Airchive.com, who was onboard the Dreamliner for its maiden voyage to Chicago's O'Hare International Airport.
"Flight 1116 from IAH-ORD is a normal operating flight with mostly paying passengers, some press, United high status customers, and of course a number of aviation enthusiasts," Sloan wrote. "Many passengers are completely, but pleasantly surprised at the significance of this morning’s flight."
Sloan described the flight as an "airborne party," with a mid-service champagne toast led by Smisek (who flew coach).
Are you looking forward to flying on the Dreamliner?
