New Woodlands Hotel
The Woodlands emerges as a top Texas destination: New luxury hotel looks to cash in on trend
A new 303-room luxury hotel is set to rise in the heart of The Woodlands. It is being designed to target business travelers coming to Town Center and Houston area residents seeking a staycation destination.
The Howard Hughes Corp. and its wholly-owned subsidiary, The Woodlands Development Co., is expected to break ground on the project soon, with a target completion date of mid-2015.
Unofficially called the Waterway Square Hotel, the full-service facility is to include the 300-plus guest rooms and suites, as well as 24,000 square feet of meeting and special event space. A fine dining restaurant and second-level pool deck and bar with direct access to The Fountains at Waterway Square are on the drawing board.
“There is a tremendous need for additional first-class hotel rooms in the Woodlands with over 20 million people visiting each year."
Plans also include a pedestrian bridge spanning the waterway and the addition of a performance stage at Waterway Square.
“There is a tremendous need for additional first-class hotel rooms in the Woodlands with over 20 million people visiting The Woodlands Town Center each year,” Paul Layne, executive vice president of master planned communities for The Howard Hughes Corp., said in a statement. “A hotel of this caliber will attract both business and leisure travelers into the heart of the Waterway Square District within walking distance to hundreds of businesses, shops and restaurants as well as major entertainment venues such as The Cynthia Woods Mitchell Pavilion.”
Also built by The Woodlands Development Co. is The Woodlands Resort and Conference Center, which is currently undergoing a $75 million renovation. The major makeover includes 184 new rooms and a lazy river to be completed this fall.
