The Meineke Bowl wants to make you a sports reporter: Enter to win exclusivebehind-the-scenes access to Texas A&M-Northwestern tilt
Are you a high school journalism student involved with your school newspaper or yearbook? Have you always dreamed of covering a major sporting event as a credentialed reporter?
Well, you don't need a Hail Mary pass to put that touchdown in reach. The Meineke Car Care Bowl of Texas and CultureMap are partnering to offer a contest: One student will be selected as a special correspondent for the bowl game pitting Texas A&M against Northwestern at Reliant Stadium Dec. 31.
The winning student has the chance to break into the field of sports reporting, covering the game from the press box alongside professional reporters from local and national news outlets.

He or she will also have behind-the-scenes access to cover other Bowl Week events — including team luncheons, the Rodeo Bowl, team spouses' events and practices. The budding journalist will live the life of a sports reporter for a week. The student reporter's dispatches will be featured on the Meineke Bowl's website — and there will also be the chance to get the work on CultureMap.com.
Enter to win on the CultureMap Facebook page by clicking on the "Insider Perks" tab. Simply fill out your name and email, indicate your reason for wanting to cover the big game and provide a sample of your writing (preferably a piece published in your school newspaper or yearbook).
The deadline for submissions is Dec. 19, and the contest winner will be announced Dec. 20 after a panel of judges goes through the submissions.
Sure Bobby Knight once famously said of sportswriters, "All of us learn to write in the second grade. Most of us go on to greater things." But you know better. Best of luck.
