Pitts 2020
Barry Sanders praises the Texans' voting shuttle drive as Connor Barwin speaksup on METRO
The Houston Texans are making a political difference this election day.
Linebacker Connor Barwin tweeted his support for mass transit in Houston with a "no" endorsement on the METRO ballot item, plus a group of current players — led by former offensive lineman Chester Pitts — has teamed up with Harvest Time Community Center in helping shuttle senior citizens to the polls.
Pitts, a player-turned-sports analyst and radio co-host, has his "sights set on a 2020 senate seat."
TMZ first reported that Pitts has "rented several 15-passenger vans" for the do-good mission, enlisting left tackle Duane Brown, center Chris Myers, safety Danieal Manning and offensive lineman Antoine Caldwell, plus former teammates fullback Moran Norris, defensive end Travis Johnson and linebacker Charlie Anderson.
The NFL giants met at 9 a.m. at Harvest Time before splitting off to different senior citizen community centers within District B.
"Having the chance to vote is one of America's greatest privileges . . . It's an honor and our duty to go to the polls," Pitts said in a statement. "That is why it is important we help make sure everyone has this opportunity."
The statement also reveals that Pitts, a player-turned-sports analyst and radio co-host, has his "sights set on a 2020 senate seat."
He's certainly making an early impression. Hall of Fame running back Barry Sanders tweeted about Pitts' election day drive, writing that he'd like to "personally recognize" it.
