A Cleaner Astrodome?
Astrodome is finally going to get washed: And other insights as new $194 million plan moves along
The "New Dome Experience" is onto the next step after the Harris County Commissioners Court met to discuss the Capital Improvements Plan for fiscal year 2013-14 on Tuesday morning.
After Astrodome Tomorrow founder Chris Alexander announced his organization's intention to raise money to pressure wash the Astrodome, Edgardo Colón, chairman of the board for the Harris County Sports & Convention Corporation, presented the officially-endorsed plan to the Harris County commissioners and a packed crowd that overflowed into the atrium.
Colón pointed to the two main points of the $194 million plan, which calls for converting the interior of the 'Dome into a 350,000-square-foot, state-of-the-art multifunctional event space and opening up and leveling out the exterior to create 400,000 square feet of useable outdoor plaza.
Harris County Judge Ed Emmett and the commissioners made a motion to refer the proposal to the budget office for consideration of the financial impact of the renovation, and to the county attorney to look at the plan's legality and deadlines.
