Champagne Johnny: Manziel sticks to partying ways despite growing criticism
Despite a poor first season in the NFL and critics who question whether he is an alcoholic, Johnny Manziel can't seem to stop his partying ways.
The former Texas A&M quarterback was spotted poolside at the Delano Hotel in Miami on New Year's Eve afternoon chugging champagne straight from the bottle with Houston girlfriend Colleen Crowley and friends, according to TMZ and several news outlets.
Manziel has denied that he has an alcohol problem and is simply enjoying life like any (famous) 22-year-old.
The latest incident came only days after Manziel, who is suffering from a hamstring injury, was late to a team meeting with the Cleveland Browns, saying he had overslept, amid reports he had been partying past midnight the night before in Cleveland. Manziel apologized, saying; "It’s about being accountable . . . instead of looking like a jackass."
Manziel has a four year contract with the Browns worth about $8.25 million.
On ESPN’s First Take sports commentator Skip Bayless labeled Manziel an alcoholic who needs treatment. "In talking to people in and around the Cleveland Browns, I believe Johnny Manziel continues to have a problem with alcohol. And I believe ... that it is time for Johnny to get some help. He continues to lie to his executives, to his coaches, to his teammates, to the media, and most of all, he continues to lie to himself," Bayless said.
Manziel has denied that he has an alcohol problem and is simply enjoying life like any (famous) 22-year-old. He responded to critics in a cryptic way on his Twitter account Monday, the same day he was spotted at the Delano, clubbing with Victor Cruz, Ryan Phillippe, and Maverick Carter.
There's beauty in the struggle, ugliness in the success..
