Houston's bold-faced names turned out at the River Oaks Country Club on March 6, attending the 31st Annual Friends and Families Luncheon. The chic bash brought in more than $200,000 for the Children's Museum Houston's outreach programs.
More than 400 attendees turned out for the event, chaired by Maya Pomroy, Nina Rand, and Mehgan Wichuk. Guests and supporters of the museum gathered to show their commitment to enriching the lives of children through education and exploration. KHOU 11 Meteorologist Chita Craft served as the emcee.
Julie Lythcott-Haims, a New York Times best-selling author and former Stanford University Dean of Freshmen, delivered the keynote address. In remarks that encouraged parents to allow their children to forge their own paths and embrace their individuality, she offered this quote: "Do not prepare the road for the child. Prepare the child for the road."
Central Market donated elegant centerpieces, and guests were delighted by Village Bakery's cookie party favors. The event included a raffle, with items such as a stunning diamond bar necklace from Reiner Fine Jewelry, a chance to skip the valet line, and a luxurious basket of skin products and services from Metropolitan Dermatology Institute. The funds raised from the luncheon benefit the museum's many outreach initiatives and ensuring children from all walks of life have access to enriching educational experiences, part of the organization's mission to transform communities through innovative child-centered learning that improves the trajectories of all children.
