Happy New Year!
The social names of the year in poetry: Reliving 2012 as only Shelby Hodge can
Since we had a fine time in the year that's almost passed, let's look back at memories of the fun that will last.
As we quickly move forward to 2013, the best of 2012 is worth visiting again.
We wined and we dined and we danced the night through, raising money for charities both old and quite new.
The Tudors, the Kinders, Margaret Williams et al. They reached into their pockets to benefit all.
And what would we do without handsome gents, to light up our nights without recompense?
The Cullens, the Recklings, Lester Smith and wife Sue. The Linns and the Longs gave generously too.
And then there're the stalwarts who partied with flair, Don Mafrige, the Mithoffs were among those who dare.
Rosemarie and Matt Johnson, Cathy Brock, Randy Powers, Joyce Echols, Leigh Williams and we add Richard Flowers.
Debbie Festari, Ericka Bagwell, Stephanie Perkins and Bill, they make the night grand through sheer force of will.
As the arts were quite central to all that took place, we tip our hats to the leaders who ran that great race.
Perryn Leech, Stanton Welch, Mark Hanson, Gregory Boyd, Amy Fote, Amy Purvis, Bill Arning, Carlisle Floyd.
How the fashion femmes partied from morning to night, we salute the swans, a beautiful sight.
Susan Plank, Audrey Cochran, Karina Barbieri, Amy Lee, Estela Cockrell and Ms. Prather as in Terry.
Lynn Wyatt, Lucinda Loya and jeweler Liz Glanville, Faith Majors and Millette Sherman, they all dressed to kill.
Then there are those who made the nights sing, their mere presence guaranteed to bring on the bling.
Mark Sullivan, Stephen Lewis, Wallis Marsh and DeeDee, Ann Short, Don Short and Mia Gradney.
Rebekah Johnson, Tim Moloney, Ann Carl and Jared Lang, Gregory Fourticq, Andrew Echols, the year ends with a bang.
Sure to be part of the coming year's fetes, Roseann Rogers, Rich Levy and Suzette Betts.
Add Jessica Rossman and Gordon Bethune, these two send every bash over the moon.
Katy Mayell, Mark Wawro and Melanie Gray, Jo and Jim Furr, Peter and Mary Faye Way.
Count Reggie and Lee Smith among the duos who score, as do the McKeithans and so many more.
Then there are those who made the nights sing, their mere presence guaranteed to bring on the bling.
Gene and Astrid Van Dyke, John and Stacy Andell, Byron Hood and Karen, we know them quite well.
And what would we do without handsome gents, to light up our nights without recompense?
Mike Plank, Richard Fant, Ceron and Vance Muse, we'll add a few more so as not to confuse.
Cal McNair, Michael Gamson and the Sarofim clan, John Thrash, Eddie Allen, it's all man to man.
Will Mathis, Lee Majors, Frank DeLape and Bob Cavnar, Marcus Smith, Dennis Murphree — we know who they all are.
And then there're those who committed with "I do," Dominique Sachse and Nick Florescu,
And let's not forget Miya Shay and Gene Wu.
To name all the players would take quite some time, so here's the final few from this long list of mine.
Bo Hopson, Sarah Tressler and Shannon Hall, Lindsey Brown, Katherine Howe and Galveston's Jon Paul.
Devon Britt-Darby and Marcus Sloan, Terri and John Havens, John Scales and Joan.
As time runs out on this prosperous year, I wish you good fortune and lots of good cheer.
