Elton John makes surprise appearance at Houston gala in honor of Lynn Wyatt
All 10 Greater Houston Women's Hall of Fame honorees had someone special provide their video introductions. But none could beat Living Legend Award winner Lynn Wyatt, who had two major music world talents do her honors — Elton John on video and, in another big surprise, Houston Grand Opera music directorPatrick Summers in person on stage.
Even though Elton was on video, the heartfelt salute to Lynn from her long-time pal had the ballroom of 400 gala-goers absolutely awestruck. Patrick's glowing tribute was already awesome enough, coming from the internationally-renowned music director and conductor.
That was the most talked about aspect of the Greater Houston Women's Chamber of Commerce fourth annual Greater Houston Women's Hall of Fame gala, held at the InterContinental Houston.
Not be overlooked, the total package of honorees was stellar — Donna Bruni, Diane Lokey Farb, Paula Harris, Dr. Eugenie Kleinerman, Ayse McCracken, Phoebe Tudor, Trini Mendenhall Sosa, Jamie Vazquez and Mary Vitek.
To name just a few of those providing video introductions: Bob Devlin for Donna Bruni, State Sen. Rodney Ellis for Paula Harris and Tracy Krohn for Jamie Vazquez.
Playing leading roles in the gala evening were chairs Philamena Baird and Pattie Dale Tye, honorary chair Ellie Francisco and chamber founder and president Suzan Deison.
Filling the ballroom were notables including chamber board president Leisa Holland-Nelson, Susie and Bob Hale, Mary Ann and Dr. Bob Wilkins, Margaret Alkek Williams, Gracie Saenz, Bob Devlin, Sharon Michael Owens, Sidney Evans and Janet Gurwitch.
