A ballroom filled with "angels" makes Friends of Child Advocates luncheon aheavenly success
Early on Lucinda Loya and Stephanie Perkins had set their minds to surpassing the goal for the Friends of Child Advocates "Angels of Hope" luncheon. And by the time all was said and done, the chairs' lofty plans had succeeded with more than 600 guests filling the ballroom of the Westin Galleria Hotel and with more than $350,000 raised.
The day is always part holiday fun and high fashion without foresaking the mission of the non-profit that mobilizes court-appointed volunteers to assist children caught in the mire of child abuse. These volunteers are assigned to the cases of children who have been victims of life-threatening abuse or neglect and, as a result, have been placed in protective custody.
The holiday fun this week was the merry decor of red tablecloths and the centerpieces of red roses, orchids and tinted hydrangeas. The high style was the Rena Lange fashion presentation courtesy of Neiman Marcus and GM Bob Devlin.
Honoree Linda Messner was given a heartfelt introduction by her son, Jalin Casares, whose words caused more than a few tears to fall.
Amid the midday merrymakers were Child Advocates CEO Sonya Galvan, board chair David Quackenbush, long-time supporters Janice McNair, Lynda Transier and Denise Monteleone plus Ericka Bagwell, Alissa Maples, Millette Sherman, Cathy Cleary, Monica Hartland, Alice Burguieres, Barbara O'Connell, Karen Johnson, Clayton Erikson and Martha Adger.
