Now that's the spirit! Determined trio hosts party raising funds to feed morethan 200 families
It was just one of those spontaneous things. New friends (really new) Myra Johnson, Amy Powell and Ken Krimmel decided over cocktails one day that it would be a good thing to try to help a few families in need as the holiday season approached.
They pondered the idea and came up with "The Black and White Affair," which was originally intended to provide a solid meal for 100 Houston area families.
Invitations went out for the party at Roak, where drinks were served, along with bites from Sullivan's Steakhouse, and art items for purchase were offered from the talents at the Museum of Cultural Arts Houston (MOCAH). DJ tunes blared. Non-perishable food donations and dollars were accepted.
By the time all was said and done, they had raised enough to feed well over 200 families served by Star of Hope and the Salvation Army. The program was so successful that the team reached out to Somebody Cares and Walking Faith Ministries to distribute their collections.
Having met and formed the idea only several weeks before the event, this trio was jazzed by their success. Johnson moved to Houston two years ago from Kentucky and works in freelance consulting, Powell is an international policy advisor and Krimmel is a semi-retired businessman.
