Carmen Marc Valvo, Zang Toi & that North Texas Super Bowl are making social news
Those Winter Ball gals just can't stay away from Saks Fifth Avenue. They held their presentation party there last month and just last week, they were back to party at a "Girls Night Out for CCFA & the Winter Ball."
Saks GM Terry Zmyslo and fashion director Sylvia Forsythe have to love it.
Winter Ball chairs Jan Carson and Virginia Reisman led the charge of giddy shoppers who nibbled on hors d'oeuvres, kept time to the beats spun by DJ Shy Guy and flashed their credit cards for the yummy fashions by Carmen Marc Valvo.
More than 100 turned out to meet Valvo, one of the hardest-working and nicest designers in the business, and get a glimpse of his evening gowns, cocktail dresses and furs. Among those admiring the wares were SFA's Fady Armanious, the 10 Women of Distinction, Winter Ball honorary chair Mary Ann McKeithan, Melissa King, Carrie Carson, Mary Nichols, Kristy Junco, Samira Anne Slaman, Nancy Golden, Bruce Padilla, Miriam Habib and Natalie Wall.
Super Bowl partying
Although Super Bowl XLV is taking place in that village north of H-town, winds are blowing this way involving more than a few Houston players and not of the NFL variety. (Don't forget the official name is North Texas Super Bowl, not the Dallas Super Bowl.) Stylist to the stars Cerón, veteran Super Bowl event planner Fontaine Swopeand high bidders at a local charity auction are among the Houstonians winging their way to Dallas Cowboys Stadium in Arlington on Feb. 6.
Swope, head of Eli Marketing, has been orchestrating Maxim magazine's wildly popular Super Bowl party for more than a few years and continues with that winner in 2011. While her lips are legally sealed on the details, she did allow that the Saturday night bash before the game will take place in downtown Dallas while ESPN's "The Next" bash will be held in Fort Worth.
Funny thing about the Maxim party. It's invitation-only and you can't buy your way onto the list. But it seems that you can buy an entry pass from one of the lucky invitees who would rather score a few grand than party in the stratosphere. We are told that passes to the Maxim party range from $1,800 to $3,000 depending on how affluent is the city in which the ballgame is held.
For this year's event, Swope has hired Cerón Salon (with locations in both Houston and Dallas) to handle hair and make-up for the big-name entertainers and the oodles of drop-dead-gorgeous models that provide eye candy for the predominantly male crowd that packs the Maxim party. That number of coifs and maquillage should reach around 60.
Swope has been conducting cast calls in Dallas in recent weeks to find young women who exude that wholesome earthiness so popular at Super Bowl parties. (Cerón delivered the goods for the stars at the Maxim party for Super Bowl Houston in 2004.)
Super Bowl dream trip
Auctioneer Vikki Vines had them going at it in the ballroom of the Hilton Americas-Houston the other night when David Towery and Brad Wander entered a heated battle for the package dubbed "Jet Setter Super Bowl Dream!" In the end, donors Cathy and Jesse Marion gave the package twice, enriching Citizens for Animal Protection coffers by $27,000.
For their bucks, the high bidders will fly to Dallas on a private jet, where a fully stocked galley and individual media screens will make the 50-minute flight seem like seconds. The foursome will be met at the airport by limo and whisked to the Marion's private suite at Dallas Cowboys Stadium.
The Marions were out of town for the gala but had their pal Byron Hood minding the bidding. Via phone to Hood, the Marions agreed to sell the swell package twice. And gala chairs Julie Brown and Patti Murphy couldn't have been happier.
Fashion fun!
