Party Watch
The ultimate Irish party raises some serious green as three close friends honor their bestie
What: The University of St. Thomas Irish Gala.
Where: The Houstonian Hotel, Club and Spa.
The 411: More than 400 guests help raise in excess of $380,000 for UST's William J. Flynn Center for Irish Studies, providing scholarships and supporting student travel abroad. They were seeing green in terms of funds raised and fashion as more than a few in the black-tie crowd added a splash of green to their attire.
Three close friends — Maureen Evans, Margo P. Geddie and Lisa Miranda — joined forces to chair the evening that honored their bestie Michele Malloy.
Irish notes filled the night as Wyndnwyre performed traditional Irish music before Celtic balladeer Danny O'Flaherty took the stage. After dinner, he led the traditional sing-along over Irish coffee.
Who: Headlining the guest list were Archbishop Emeritus Joseph Fiorenza, Irish consul general Adrian Farrell of Austin, UST president Bob Ivany and wife Marianne and the Rev. Bill Shaw, director of the 174 Trust in Belfast, Northern Ireland. Add to supporters Raye White, Bert Edmundson, Jes and John Hagale, Mikki Hebl and David Harvey, Ginny and Dennis Malloy, Colleen and George McCullough, Sue and Jim Power and Kari and Sean Tracey.
