'BBQ, Beers & Cheers' fundraiser hits a home run with major league players' support
More than 125 supporters of Homemade Hope came together for the Houston-based charity’s first “BBQ, Beers & Cheers” fall fundraising event, held at Midtown Barbeque. Guests were treated to an afternoon of all-you-can-eat tasty ‘cue and craft beers, plus college football on multiple HDTVs.
What more could you ask for? How about music by local favorite, the Chameleon Band, and raffle items including gift cards from Define Body & Mind, Lululemon, SoulCycle, Triniti Restaurant and Americas.
Founded in 2013, Homemade Hope provides hands-on cooking and nutrition classes and holiday celebrations to children living in local homeless and transitional living shelters. Organizers hope to make the fall event an annual affair.
Toasting to a good cause were Homemade Hope founder Blair Bentley, Sergio Marazita, Susan Dowdy, Bart and Beverly Bentley, Mike Hardy, Jasmine Taillon, Katie Shack, Schuyler Evans, Claire Petratis and professional baseball players Jameson Taillon and Nick Kingham of the Pittsburgh Pirates, John Simms of the Washington Nationals, and Robbie Grossman of the Minnesota Twins.
