Rockin' Runway Blast
It was the best damn Catwalk for a Cure gala ever — big bucks, top designer, hot crowd
From the moment the doors opened on the Catwalk for a Cure evening, an unexpected energy surged through The Astorian ballroom. Packed to the rafters with close to 500 well-heeled revelers, this party was set to rock. And it did.
Record proceeds of $750,000 (for sarcoma cancer research and free housing for sarcoma patients) insured that the vibrant partying served a higher purpose.
Perhaps it was the Veuve Cliquot champagne (labels changed to Tenenbaum) that flowed in a bubbly diamond raffle or the sheer energy of the chairs — Allie and Jay Fields and Lisa and Josh Oren, whatever the source, it was one good-time night.
So popular is this event among the thirtysomething/fortysomething crowd that it sold out last May. Up to the last minute, there were pleas to add more tables and in fact the runway that would host a Monique Lhuillier parade of dreamy fashions was shortened to accommodate the most ardent fans. Thus it was an elbow-to-elbow cocktail hour, the sardine effect rendering a positive party vibe.
As dinner flowed from the Cordua Catering kitchen, Amschwand Sarcoma Cancer Foundation founder Missy Bellinger and stand-in emcee Lisa Malosky (Deborah Duncan had a pothole disaster and never made it) launched the fast-paced program. Plaudits were given to Celebration of Survivorship honoree Kristin Elliott, to Commitment to Care Award recipient Dr. Keila Torres and Commitment to the Cause Award to the Freddie Steinmark Family.
In a beautiful twist of fate, former survivorship honoree Alexandra Knight won the raffle for the yellow trillion cut diamond, valued at $12,900, from Tenenbaum Classic Jewelers. Tony Bradfield and Kevin Black made the presentation, helping Knight put on the gold necklace that held the diamond.
Among the many loving this night were Wezy and Bobby Dees, GM of Saks Fifth Avenue which brought in Monique Lhuillier and her spring 2016 collection for the catwalk presentation; auctioneer Jeff Smith and wife Kathryn, Linda and Jerry Fields, Brady Knight, Lindley and Jason Arnoldy, Marsha and David Solomon, Denise Monteleone, Francine and Westy Ballard, Kristy Bradshaw and Laura and Rick Lear.
